Handmade Wardrobe // Axel

Happy July!

I'm slowly but surely tackling all the sewing projects that I prepped while I was pregnant. First up - this tie waist Axel skirt! I fell in love with this pattern when my friend Megan released it, so it shot right to the top of my to-do list. And I'm kind of obsessed with this floral scuba knit fabric that I chose, even though it kind of camouflages the tie detail of the skirt in photos. It looks so much better in real life!

LONG LIVE SUMMER

How is it September already?! And already almost Labor Day?1 Geesh. I don't know about you, but I'm actually not ready for all the fall things. At all. I'm team summer, all the way. So I'm gonna keep on wearing my white and my sandals and slip on my swimsuit to head to the beach this weekend.

About the dress - this white scuba knit was one of my prized finds from my NYC fabric shopping trip. It's a shame you can't see the embossed detail in the full length shots. It's ridiculously pretty. Do you follow me on Instagram? I posted a before shot of my sketch and a close up of the fabrics!

HANDMADE WARDROBE // FLAMINGO LINGO

If you've been around here awhile, you maaaaaay recognize this fabric from a dress I made years ago. Sadly, that dress didn't survive very long. There was an unfortunate incident with the washing machine. And it was oh so sad.

Luckily I've had some extra yardage hanging around, and I finally got around to putting it to use. It only took, you know, 3 years.

I MAKE FASHION

Remember when I teamed up with Megan Nielsen awhile back and I was doing all those fun sewing tutorial posts? Well did you guys know that I'm back at it, contributing to Design Diary again? I've already shared some technique tutorials, like inserting an exposed zipper, gathering heavy fabrics, and working with PDF patterns. But today I've posted a fun DIY for the off the shoulder dress that I wore in this post. And now I have a really chic chambray version too! If you're a sewer (or even if you're not and just want to give it a try. I swear it's pretty easy), head on over to see how you can make one of your own.

YOU CAN'T TAKE THE SKY FROM ME

I pretty much say this every time, but I think that this is my favorite handmade wardrobe piece to date. I'm crazy about the off-the-shoulder trend (as is everyone else right now), and this starry print fabric that I've had in my stash for awhile was just screaming at me to be made into a chic little dress. So ta-daaaaaaaa. I shall call her Vera.

P.S - If you can see my little necklace is in the photo below, and know what it is and what Vera and this post title is in reference to, we can be best friends. #fangirl
